Inflammatory Myopathies

Inflammatory myopathies are acquired, treatable autoimmune diseases, characterized clinically by weakness and soreness of muscles and elevated CK and pathologically by myonecrosis and mononuclear inflammatory infiltrates. More muscle biopsies are done for diagnosis of inflammatory myopathy than for any other category of muscle disease. The main inflammatory myopathies are polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and inclusion body myositis.
